Description
The Chamber Choir was founded in 1971 within the old Academy of Music and Fine Arts at Madeira. Had as founding Professor Corner Rennate Von Schenkendorff, pioneering singers students of Singing and Instrument that institution of art education.

Since its foundation, and during the first ten years, carries a concentrated intervention concert in Funchal presenting periodically choral and instrumental recitals open to the public as well as resident visitors, collaborating with the Chamber Orchestra of the students Academy.

In 1984, in recognition of its continual cultural activity, was awarded the status of an Institution of Public Utility.

In 1986 he becomes Cultural Association through which develops an important action of artistic dissemination to the entire region and abroad.

Pioneered the organization of artistic exchanges between various cultural institutions with the participation of guests from different regions of Portugal and foreign choirs, highlighting the organizations biennial Festival of Choirs Madeira since 1988.

Regularly participated in numerous choral festivals within and outside the country, as the ambassador of the region, highlighting its action disclosure of Madeiran culture in regions such as the Azorean archipelago, Portugal, Spain and Vienna, Austria.

In its initial training period played classical musical works of European baroque and classicism. Subsequently developed an important work in promoting the music of traditional Madeiran roots, through arrangements and choral harmonies authored by Composer, Conductor, lyric tenor and singing teacher Madeira contemporary John Victor Costa.

Recently presented solo and in collaboration with musicians and performative distinct groupings such as the Classical Orchestra of Madeira, the Madeira Mandolin Orchestra and many regional choirs and instrumental ensembles relief such as the Orchestra of Ponteado Cultural Association and Musical Xarabanda and Youth Choir and Ensemble Regina Pacis dependence of the Regional Direction Education / DSEAM, who has played contrasting repertoire, from Arias and parts of the Great Reef Opera songs by nature mild, some with harmonies and arrangements for mixed choir authorship of Professor de Canto, Mezzo-soprano and Conductor Zelia Gomes Ferreira.

Regularly participates in high moments of public life in the region through the great sacred choral-symphonic works of composers such as G. Handel, Haydn, Mozart and W. F. Schubert, in close collaboration with the Madeira Classical Orchestra concerts in presence of senior representatives of the Regional Government and the Church in events that integrate various official celebrations such as the Day of the Municipality of Funchal, Day of Madeira and Madeira Communities, among others.

Has been regularly invited to interpret the Regional and National Anthems at the annual ceremony agraciamento of personalities in Madeira Palácio de São Lourenço, on the occasion of the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities in the presence of high regional entities.

Since its founding the Chamber Choir of Madeira had as artistic directors resident Dr. Rufino da Silva, Amador Cortez, José Pereira Júnior, João Victor Costa, Augustine Bettencourt and
Zélia Ferreira Gomes.

It was directed by guests including Augusto Pereira de Sousa conductors, Silva Pereira, Gunther Arglebe, Manuel Teixeira, Joaquim Luís Gomes, Zoltan Santa, Jordi Casas, Manuel Ivo Cruz, Rui Massena, Manuel Morais, Eurico Martins and Filipe Verissimo.

Accompanied singers renowned soloists, including Annerose Arglebe, Manuela Bigail, Elsa Booty, Ana Ferraz, José Lourenço, Paul Tito Hawk, Oliveira Lopes, José Ferreira, Cyrus Telmo, Wagner Diniz.


Currently is artistically directed by conductor Zélia Ferreira Gomes.

The Chamber Choir of Madeira also develops an important pedagogical activity of teaching and practice of choral music for young and old, whether experienced or inexperienced.
